What Will I Learn?
KS3:
The maths department aims to develop and provide students with the skills and abilities they need for the workplace and into further education. In KS3 the new functional skills scheme of work enables students to relate their maths to everyday life. Students learn in a variety of ways, including group and pair work, practical skills and investigations that help students become independent learners. Areas of maths covered include number, algebra, geometry and statistics. Basic numeracy is also a priority. Assessment occurs at the end of every term when students are given a KS3 level.
KS4:
In KS4, maths can be taken in either the Linear or the Modular format and opportunities are available for students to take their GCSE exams early where appropriate. The study programme includes being able to communicate mathematically and being able to identify and select the appropriate mathematical method to solve problems. At the end of the programme of study, students are awarded a GCSE grade from A* to G.
Are There Any Learning Opportunities Beyond The Classroom?
Students are able to access internet sites for support, homework and extra study. Opportunities also exist for students to take part in maths events both in school and out of school on various visits.
Do I Need Any Special Equipment To Study This Subject?
It is essential that students have a scientific calculator which should be brought to alllessons.
