the redevelopment of the Sports Hall, providing the school with top of the range Badminton

The new state of the art P.E. department reflects their commitment to Physical Education and
helps their ongoing aims of achieving local and national sports success.
The school has 2 playing fields, 1 enclosed hard court area, 1 sports hall, 1 gym and a dance/
drama studio, plus a full size outdoor astro turf facility. In addition the Havering Gymnastics
Club are due to complete their move to Bower Park which will give our students full access

What Will I Learn?
At Bower Park we strongly believe in the Sports Council’s maxim “Sport For All”.
To this end we offer a wide and varied range of activities to all students.
KS3: During years 7 – 9 students cover a very varied curriculum which includes Basketball,
Badminton, Athletics, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Dance, Health and Fitness,
Netball, Outdoor Education, Rugby, Rounders, Softball, Cross Country, Trampolining
and Tennis.
KS4: In years 10 and 11 students choose a programme of activities to follow, many
of which take place off site. Students who wish to further their knowledge and
understanding of sport are given the opportunity to study GCSE P.E. or a Level 2
BTEC First Diploma in sport, which is worth 4 GCSE’s.
How Will I Be Assessed?
KS3: At Key Stage 3 you will be assessed throughout each activity. This will involve
formative and summative assessments where you will be provided with a target level
and a National Curriculum level for each activity area from year 7 – 9.
KS4: Students following the BTEC qualification will be continually assessed over the two
years. This will be in the form of assignments in six different unit areas. Students
taking GCSE P.E. will follow the Edexcel GCSE course. One piece of written course
work is developed around their Personal Exercise Plan. Students are also assessed
during the course of 4 chosen activities using the criteria set by Edexcel. All students
sit a final written and practical examination.
Are There Any Learning Opportunities Beyond The Classroom?
The P.E. department offer a range of extra-curricular clubs which allow students to improve
on their National Curriculum level as well as become part of a school team. All year groups
are entered into the Essex, London and Havering football tournaments, Havering Cup
netball rallies, Badminton tournaments and Basketball leagues. Other competitions entered
include Rugby, Athletics, Cricket, Gymnastics, Rounder’s, Trampolining and Cross Country.
A number of other sports clubs exist throughout the year where students can enjoy sport and have fun.
